rationale of the study:
verbal humor is a widespread phenomenon that has penetrated into every aspect of our life. metaphor is a part of our daily conversation. it’s easy to find that linguistic wisdom and philosophy of human beings are reflected behind these two linguistic phenomena. in the field of pragmatics, the study of humor has also developed. previous studies on verbal humor are mostly static, and rarely involve the dynamic generation process of verbal humor and the network construction of humorous meaning. therefore, this paper takes good luck charlie, the popular american sitcom, as the data collection and study the metaphorical humor in the previous two seasons.

research contents:
in this paper, the author interprets verbal humor from a new perspective (cognitive linguistics), combined with the concept of metaphor, further explored a new kind of humor, namely, the metaphorical humor, applying four basic frameworks of concept blending theory.

in china, zhang [张弓] (1963) is the first chinese scholar to take humor into rhetoric study, who holds that humor is to use language techniques to show a witty and funny appeal. hu ''s [胡范铸] (1987) linguistic humor and tan ''s [谭达人] (1997) humor and verbal humor are considered classics in rhetoric field. gao [高胜林] (2006) has analyzed two common structural patterns of humor from relationship between semantic meaning and linguistic form, between phonetics and linguistic form.
